Kenai City Council member charged with domestic violence assault

City of Kenai

Kenai City Council member Tim Navarre has been charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault following an incident in Kenai on Tuesday evening.

According to court charging documents, a witness reported seeing a man, later identified as Navarre, exit his vehicle in a parking lot, open the rear door and grab a small child and throw him out of the vehicle. The child was reportedly airborne and landed on his back several feet away. Navarre stated he took hold of the child and removed him from the vehicle for misbehaving and set him on the ground next to the vehicle. The child has lived with Navarre for the past year and a half, according to court documents.

A pre-trial conference is schedule for July 6 at 9:30 a.m. at the Kenai Courthouse. Court documents show Navarre pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of Driving Under the Influence in 1988, 1991 and 2007.

Navarre has served on the council since 2011, winning reelection in 2014. He also currently serves on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education. He has previously served on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly. In 2016, he was recognized with awards for his public service by the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce and the Alaska Municipal League.
