Soldotna to consider plastic bag ban

The city of Soldotna could join the list of Alaska communities that have banned plastic shopping bags. An ordinanceto do just that will be introduced at the March 28th council meeting.

It’s sponsored by council members Lisa Parker and Linda Murphy and, if approved, would go into effect in November of this year.

Bethel and Hooper Bay also have bans on single-use plastic bags. The Homer city council narrowly approved a similar ban in 2013. That was later overturned by a citizen initiative. A public hearing for Soldotna’s proposed ban is scheduled for April 11th.
