Despite being under pressure from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, to look at other possible terminals, the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation opened a satellite office in Nikiski on Feb. 12. It is staffed by Debra Holle Brown, a former Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly member.
In a statement Brown said that Alaska LNG is “going to be a long-term economic boom for Nikiski and the entire Kenai Peninsula.”
Nikiski is the planned terminus of an 800-mile natural gas pipeline from the North Slope and location of a liquefaction plant and LNG export terminal.
Meanwhile on Thursday, FERC ordered the AGDC to answer more questions about Port MacKenzie in the Mat-Su Borough and to provide an environmental and engineering analysis.
On the borough’s website, Mat-Su Mayor Vern Halter posted that he looks forward to working with the AGDC.
In the Anchorage Daily News, former federal Alaska gas line coordinator Larry Persily is quoted as saying the FERC letter looking for more answers could lead to a delay in the pipeline development schedule.
AGDC’s Nikiski office is located in the Nikiski Recreation Center and is open Monday through Friday.
