The uncommon ebb provides optimal conditions for tide pooling, an activity where people can explore the water’s exposed ecosystems.

  • A fish passage restoration project will bring improvements to the health of a southern Kenai Peninsula salmon population. And, the Alaska House rejects a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would guarantee Permanent Fund dividends paid out according to a formula. Plus, most Alaskans now have until May 15th to remove studded tires from their vehicles.
  • A former Soldotna teacher and union president charged with counts related to sexual abuse of a minor appears in court for a hearing about evidence in the case. And, a third candidate runs for the Alaska State House district that represents the southern Kenai Peninsula and Kasilof. Plus, the Kenai Central High School cheerleading team takes home its fourth consecutive state championship title.

  • Alaska’s four-year statewide transportation plan has received partial approval from federal agencies, with some exclusions. Most major Kenai Peninsula highway projects, including the Cooper Landing Bypass, haven’t been affected, but the state is still waiting to hear about outside funding that will affect the timeline of that project.
  • Grace Ridge Brewing in Homer joins other brewers to challenge new rules for events in brewery tap rooms
  • Kachemak Selo has been waiting on a new school for more than a decade, and in 2016 the school district received millions in DEED grant money to do that. On Tuesday, the Borough Assembly voted to transfer that grant to the state's Department of Commerce to remove match and design requirements.
